Dorothy Pearl Friend
Apr 16, 2018Va.Born on Jan. 17, 1930, in Newburg, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Walter and Sylvia (Knotts) Goff.Dorothy loved people and was “mother” to many local and “Fresh Air” program children. She loved to bowl and was a member of the Ladies Tuesday Bowling League in her younger years.She was employed by Sterling Faucet, as a nanny, and as a helper to her husband Leo, who was a carpenter. Dorothy enjoyed working outside gardening and tending her flower beds. She had a very generous spirit, always trying to give to and help others. She attended Pine Grove Church of the Brethren.Dorothy is survived by Geoffrey Reams, Oakland; a niece, Linda Brewer, Gladesville, W.Va.; a nephew, Todd (and Deleta) Friend, Oakland; a sister-in-law, Violet Hoye, Oakland; very special friends, Ross and Marie Sines and Bill and Shelia Wallace; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Friend; three brothers, William Goff and wife Margaret, Lewis E. Goff, Walter D. Goff; three sisters, Clara Brewer and husband Dean, Thelma Bolyard and husband Ray, and Ethel McDaniel and husband Donald.Friends will be received at the C&S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland, on Tuesday, April 17, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and again at Pine Grove Church of the Brethren on Wednesday, April 18, from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time a funeral service will follow, with Pastor Gary Clem officiating. Interment will be in Taylor Sines Cemetery.Dorothy’s family would like to thank the staff at WV Caring Hospice for the compassion and care given to Dorothy during her short stay at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
